The Lady Soul Four — 2016 review

21 August 2016

It was only fitting that the jardin du jazz welcomed its first female singer on a particularly lovely summer’s evening. Lidiane Arbogast accompanied by Thierry Ollé on keyboards, André Nuffer on percussion, and Jean-Michel Cabrol on tenor sax are The Lady Soul Four.

Following a brief introduction, the music started at a lively pace as the band blended soul and blues with jazz. Among other pieces, we heard standards from the Ray Charles repertoire, including ‘Georgia on My Mind’ and a Portuguese version of ‘Hit the Road, Jack’, which thrilled the whole audience and delighted the purists.

After the interval, Lydiane Arbogast’s magnificent voice led the band’s sensual interpretation of several classic Ella Fitzgerald numbers, including a delightful version of ‘The Man I Love’.

After the final number, the audience’s rapturous applause confirmed it had been a wonderful concert; and many members of the audience stayed on to chat, as though unwilling for the evening to end. This is the third season of jazz in Thézan, and people are already asking what’s in store for next year!

The 2016 season will close with a flamenco concert by Azulenca on Saturday 3 September. A lot of places have already been booked — to make sure you don’t miss out, call us on 06 27 28 22 04 or send an email to
