Coco Briaval in the jardin du jazz

Coco Briaval’s Hungarian parents settled in Saint Rémy de Provence in the 1960s. His mother, a pure ‘Manouche’ (Roma or Gypsy), was a singer in Django Reinhardt’s entourage.

Coco Briaval’s career stretches back over 50 years. The group, which includes Coco’s brothers and other family members, has performed regularly in Paris since 1964, with concerts taking place at venues such as the Blues Jazz Museum, the Caveau de la Huchette, and the Blue Note (with Dexter Gordon). Coco Briaval also played for several years at the Django Reinhardt festival in Samois sur Seine. Since 2010 Coco Briaval has run the jazz festival at St Rémy de Provence.

The group has an impressive discography, including recordings with renowned labels such as Polydor, Philips and Pathé Marconi. Firmly rooted in the gypsy jazz tradition, their performances bring Django Reinhardt’s distinctive musical legacy to life.
